Using a Modern Camera

Taking pictures is fun and is easier than ever with today's modern cameras. For the camera enthusiast, pictures can go from great to professional with just a few easy tips. Try some of these tips and you'll be taking pictures like a professional in no time.

1. First, be aware of everything that will be in the picture, not just your subject. You may be focused on your friends, but the person walking their dog behind you may be distracting in the final picture.

2. Does your digital camera have an option to turn the flash off? If so, consider the natural lighting available and only use the flash if you really need it. If you are outside and it"s sunny enough to read a book, you probably don't need a flash.

Flashes often make human skin look very pale in your pictures. When indoors, try using the fill flash feature and take your pictures near a window.

3. Your subjects will love you for this next trick - make them appear slimmer by aiming the camera slightly down at their face and get a three quarter view. This will reveal more of the face.

4. Don't forget how useful the focus feature on your camera can be. It allows you to get closer to your subject. By filling more of the frame with the person you are taking a picture of, you are sure to capture your intended memory.

5. Try not to have your subject in the dead center of the photo. Instead, have them be slightly off center. With large groups of people, imagine a line separating them down the middle. Now aim so that the imaginary line is just off center.

Most of us will never actually win awards for our photos, but who needs awards when you've got all these great memories! Your loved ones will enjoy your masterpieces for years to come!
